A safe, family oriented community, Van Wert is located in Northwest Ohio and is made up of a strong manufacturing and agriculture base with an excellent work ethic. Home to more than 11,000 people, Van Wert is central in a population area of 900,700 within 45 miles, offering a skilled and reliable workforce.
A cradle of renewable energy in the Midwest, Van Wert County is spotted with wind turbines. Blue Creek Wind Farm, in Van Wert and Paulding Counties, operates 152 two-megawatt turbines and create enough electricity to power 70,000 homes.
Van Wert City Schools, as well as nearby Crestview Local Schools and Lincolnview Local Schools, are leaders in academic excellence in Van Wert County, the region and Ohio. With more than 2,200 students in Van Wert alone, Van Wert City Schools feature a state-of-the-art campus, which sits on nearly 100 acres and includes many modern amenities, including a large performing arts center.
At Van Wert, students use technology as a learning tool in achieving their academic goals.The Van Wert High School has begun to transition to a new high-tech school, with the emphasis now being placed on 21st-century skill development, to ensure the student’s success in today’s world.
The community is also served by the Vantage Career Center, which has benefited from the resident’s commitment towards education. Voters across 11 school districts agreed that a massive renovation to the career center was in order, and now the Vantage Career Center boasts more than 190,000 square feet of education space, which trains high school students from 13 local schools in four counties. The center also serves displaced adult workers and anyone else who desires to make a career change. Training in manufacturing, construction and automotive trades is steady.
Career paths in health and human services occupations are also offered and fill many employment gaps in our area.
In addition to Vantage, there are three other trade schools in a 45 mile radius: Four County Career Center in Archbold, Ohio, Apollo Career Center in Lima, Ohio, and Northeast Indiana Works in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Some of Van Wert’s excellent cultural and education facilities include the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwestern Ohio, the Wassenberg Art Center, the Van Wert Civic Theater and the Brumback Library (first county library in the US) to name just a few.
Van Wert’s historic downtown has a vibrant history, and now the city is focusing on revitalizing the locals businesses that make Van Wert unique, with the county’s civic and financial leaders investing time, dollars and energy to impact the economy, both locally and regionally.
Revitalization efforts are about more than preserving historic buildings; communities with healthy downtowns have more job opportunities and wealth, with greater real estate values that are attractive to buyers.

A variety of locally owned businesses are creating a vibrant and healthy downtown in Van Wert, with many opportunities eat, shop and play. Local businesses include food and dining with bakeries, coffee shops, cafes and more; retail shops that include antique stores, flowers, thrift stores, boutiques and other niche markets; health and beauty services from haircuts to massage, and more. The downtown is also full of other service-based businesses that provide a number of opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Additionally, there are many downtown events and activities that bring out the whole community for some entertainment. From car shows, concerts in the park, ArtRageous on Main and more, events keep the downtown bustling and active. A center of peony cultivation, Van Wert has hosted the annual Van Wert Peony since 1902.
